About Firefly Studio

Art is a gift of expression that lets us communicate with people of all ages who may live in different cultures and times, or speak different languages.

Through my art, I hope to encourage others to rediscover the natural world that surrounds us and to experience a sense of the wonder of nature and a deep appreciation of God’s creation.

“Earth is crammed with Heaven,
And every bush aflame with God,
But only those who see, take off their shoes.”
Elizabeth Barrett Browning

I work primarily in dye on silk but I do enjoy mixed media on canvas. I appreciate the challenge of watercolour and find hand-building techniques in clay very therapeutic. I grew up in the Caribbean where the light is clear and the colours bright, both of which are reflected in my painting. Since moving to Vancouver Island two years ago, I constantly marvel at the natural beauty here. I thoroughly enjoy painting full time in my studio, and get lost in capturing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest in my art work - it is an endless journey!

For many years when we lived on the Lower Mainland I taught art at community centres and a small private school. I hold a BA in Fine Art and an Associate Degree in Art Education, and I am thinking about teaching art again on a small scale. I live in Parksville with my husband, daughter and two (adorable) Brittany Spaniels.

Blessings!
